Progress Report 7 In this report, Charlie is used for the experiment. They operated on Charlie to make him smarter. After the operation, Charlie doesn't realize at first that it all already happened.Charlie doesn't write any progress reports for 3 days because he had bandages over his eyes. Charlie now tries hard to improve but it doesn't come from today till tomorrow. His Nurse Hilda expresses her believes about the operation to Charlie. She doesn't believe that people should with his brain. She said that if god would have wanted him to be smart he would have born him that way. The next day Hilda was replaced for Lucille. Dr. Nemur didn't want anybody to come between him and his experiment. Charlie is making his way and studies hard. This Chapter in Charlies life is the biggest factor for him. It basically turns him around 180 degrees.

In progress report 13, Charlie is acting strange because of his high intelligence and isn't respecting other people for who they are and the makes me upset due to the fact that he is disrespectful and thinks that he is superior than others. However in a way, i fell kind of sorry for him because he doesn't know how to act around people because inside is the old Charlie waiting to get out and he has soooo many problems as it is; headaches and can't sleep at night. I hope he finds what he is looking for in all of this mess
In this progress report, Charlie goes to visit Warren State home. I feel bad for Charlie because now he understands how sad this is and that he will soon be part of it. Also, the man who runs the school claims that Charlie could never understand what any of this is like and the man grows angry with him when he smiles at the remark. Algernon’s intelligence is beginning to decrease. Alice and Fay finally meet. Charlie is worried that there would be tension between them but is pleased to see that the women really like each other. Algernon is becoming more confused and violent when his attempts fail. Charlie goes to a party hosted by Professor and Mrs. Nemur. I feel bad for Charlie because Prof. Nemur is parading him around acting like he created Charlie from nothing. Charlie is upset because he was a person before the operation and Nemur just doesn’t see that. Charlie decides to drown his sorrows in alcohol and that is when “the other” Charlie comes out. He quickly runs to bathroom when he realizes what is happening and sobers himself up a bit. He has an entire conversation with his own reflection, thinking that it is “the other” Charlie. I feel bad because it must be frustrating for Charlie, having another mind inside of him that is desperate to get out but can’t. That night he comes up with a theory about his condition and writes a paper about it. With the paper he writes a note for Nemur explaining what is happening and what is going to happen. Algernon dies soon after; Charlie buries him in the backyard of his apartment building. Charlie goes to visit his mother, Rose, on Mark Street. I feel bad for both Charlie and his mother because her memories of him shift drastically. First she is scared of him, then she loves him and then she doesn’t remember him. This is as confusing for Charlie as it is for Rose. After wards, Charlie’s sister, Norma, comes home. She is so happy to see her brother because for years she thought he was dead. Norma and Charlie talk while Rose sits quietly in the corner. When Charlie has to leave, he hugs Norma and that sets his mother off. She picks up a knife and starts screaming that he shouldn’t look at his sister with sex in his eyes. Charlie is frightened and Norma remembers the night Rose wanted to kill Charlie, the night he went Uncle Herman’s.
In this progress report charlie is trying to understand his love for Alice. I feel sorry for him because he loves Alice but the "boy" Charlie inside of him won't let him show his love for her. Also Charlie begin to not like professor nemur because Nemur views him just as a guinea pig or an experiment. He thinks that Charlie was nothing before the operation. If i were Charlie I would be mad at Nemur for this because charlie was a person before the operation. I also feel bad for Alice because she finds herself not be able to understand what Charlie is talking about. Charlie has become a genius now and talks about subjects that Alice cannot understand.
I believe that Charlie should not have taken part in the experiment in the book, Flowers for Algernon. He should have remained in his original state where he was happy and well liked.
Throughout the book, I felt sorry for Charlie. Originally, he was mentally retarded and worked at Mr. Donner’s Bakery. He thought that the people who worked at the bakery were his friends. It is sad that even these people who knew him well, really only liked him because he was good for a laugh and easy to prank.
After the surgery, Charlie’s intelligence began to increase. This was good for him as he felt better about himself and felt smart; especially after beating Algernon in multiple races.
I think that it is unfortunate that Charlie became so intelligent. The experiment would have been better for Charlie if his intelligence only reached that of the average human. Instead, he went from being an outcast because he was mentally retarded to being an outcast because he was too intelligent.
I think that the only good thing about Charlie becoming so intelligent is that he was able to finish his paper on the Algernon-Gordon Effect. He might feel that he really did accomplish something major in his short time of intelligence and will be a part of history.
I think that Charlie shouldn’t have been a part of this experiment as the end results were much worse than his original state. I believe that Miss Kinnian and the professors are partially to blame for this as there hadn’t been enough tests performed and they should have been looking out for Charlie’s well being. It is too bad the experiment hadn’t worked out properly and Charlie could have lived a happy, normal life.
Charlie reconfigures the machines at the bakery to increase productivity, which earns him another raise. Charlie decides to ask Alice out to a movie to celebrate his raise, though he is unsure if such an invitation is appropriate. Charlie overhears Nemur and Strauss arguing about whether to present their preliminary findings at an upcoming convention in Chicago. Charlie befriends some of the college students he meets on campus, and he joyfully discusses Shakespeare with them.
Rex will post next
In this progress reportCharlie takes Alice out to the moviesand during their dinner after he admits his love to her. Charlie has also found out about Gimpy stealing from the bakery and is compelled to do something about it and tells Mr.Donner. He feels sad because Mr.Donner has been good to him all these years but also doesn't want Gimpy to lose his job because he has his a family. Another thing Charlie now knows is that he can make his own decisions. Later on Charlie gets fired from the bakery because the employees think hes changed (nobody knows about his operation). I feel sad for Charlie because he is starting to lose his social life with his increased intelligence. Tanner will be doing the next post.
In this progress report Charlie is starting to work the mixture. I think that it was good for Charlie to surprise everyone at the bakery by showing them that he can learn something new. Alice is helping Charlie with his spelling and grammar which really needs work since he can barely even spell a word right. Charlie finally finished his novel Robinson Crusoe, which is about time because he is still learning all the things he needs to know about life and education. Charlie is recovering more memories of his childhood. I think that he should just forget the memories since they are only causing troubles since he wants to know about them and it trying to figure them out. The next person to post is shawny boy.
In Progress Report 8 charlie got out of the hospital and went back to work at the bakery. Dr.Strauss and prof Nemur brought charlie a T.V. to help him learn . I think this would be very annoying because you would not be able to sleep. Near the the end of the book charlie beets algernon . This helps charlie to realize that he is getting smarter and boosts his confidence. Miss kinnian teaches charlie how to spell. justin will do the next progress report.
In this progress report Charlie is scared to go for this operation. I feel bad for him since he doesn't really know what going to happen, or whats happening to him. All he really knows is that he is going to become smart. I also feel that Charlie is not totally understanding what smart is all about. He feels that if your smart you'll have lots of friends, and he will be smart as soon as he walks out of the room. But he soon finds out that's not the case. The next person to write will be Nathan.
The day before the operation. In this progress report Charlie is worried. I feel sorry for Charlie because he thinks everyone is his friend and nobody takes advantage of him but the truth is that they only like to have him around because they can pull pranks on him. Charlie thinks that once he becomes smart everyone will like him. I feel bad because Charlie is about to find out that everyone is laughing at him. Shelby will write the next progress report.
This progress report takes place on march 6th .In progress report 4 Charly is still retarded and couldn't spell. But there is some improvement is is spelling and also in his punctuation. I thought that in the report i feel that if i was charly it would suck not to be able to spell and do anything without people laughing at you like your an idiot. And forgetting everything that you have done and have to do. I also wouldn't like to have people play pranks on me just because you couldn't understand what they are laughing at. And that is why i wouldn't like to be in charly's shoes.
In this Progress Report, Charlie's writing isn't really getting any better but there is little improvement in some words. Also in this report charlie is explaining how he is going to hopefully get chosen for this operation. I think that charlie is getting a little bit more aware of things as he progresses on. He has the will to be smart and wants everybody to like him which is good. And he is also questioning people more and just not doing things and letting people boss him around. Travis is doing progress report 4.
In this progress report, charlie is still slow and is taking special tests to see how developed he is and he fails the tests because he doesn't know what the doctors are asking. He tries really hard to get the right answers and gets upset and frustrated when he can't. The doctors are also frustrated that he can't complete the tests. I feel really bad for him and how simple he is. If i were charlie, i would be upset with myself and feel very confused. Charlie gets mad but keeps trying to succeed so that the doctors won't be disappointed in him. Lee will do progress report 3
In this progress report, you can tell that there is something really wrong Charlie. After reading this report you can definitely tell that he is not very smart. His report is very short, meaning that he doesn't have much concentration or desire to write them. Taylor will write next.
In this report Charlie admits his love to Alice. He also has a dream about a woman with a bloody knife. He tried to scream and run but no sounds came out. As he woke up he instantly thought of Alice and started to panic. He also found out that Gimpy stealing and giving some customers the items at a lower price. Charlie hinted Mr Donner but nothing happened afterwards. Charlie was fired soon after.
I am writing about the fourth progress report toady...... the jist of it is charlie had to look at thoes pictures and tell the person about what he saw is the pictures. And he had to tell the person about people and he couldn't lie.
The progress report is not as long as the others. It is taking place on March, 6. when he is still having problems with spelling, grammar and punctuation. He hasn't had the operation yet so he is still retarded. I think if I was Charlie I would be pretty happy to be getting the operation. Cause if he didn't get the operation it would suck being made fun of but not knowing it. ---Buckles will do progress report 6.
In this progress report, charlie is still terrible at spelling and punctuation and he is very simple and innocent. In this report he goes and meets with some doctors and a man named Burt , who tells him to do a test called the Rorschach Test. In this test, charlie is supposed to tell Burt what he sees in the inkblots, but charlie says that he doesn't see anything but spilled ink. He feels frustrated that he can't do what the doctors are asking him but keeps trying. In the end, charlie figures that he failed the test. I feel bad for charlie because he doesn't understand what to do and because he is so simple minded, he can't pick out the details that are required for the test. I bet the doctor are disappointed and a little frustrated as well.
In this progress report, you can really tell that he is having a hard time trying to write. There are many spelling errors and barely and punctuation. He starts talking about Dr. Strauss telling him to write down his thoughts in what he calls, "Progress Reports". He tells us that he works at Donner's Bakery, he is thirty two years and goes to the Beekman University Center for Retarded Adults three days a week. This is a very short progress report since this is the first one he has written before. Taylor Denolf will write Progress Report 2.
As of now, I am done progress reports: one through eight. I am also done "(too) Hooked on Phonics". I have started my vocabulary and starting to read progress report 9.
i am on page 12 and i only finished the phonics assignment. I am just a little into the book but i really dont like reading about a retarded guys journal. it just sounds boring
Each student in class will be responsible for creating a blog post about Charlie's progress reports. In your post you should reflect on what Charlie has written, how it connects to the previous progress report(s), your thoughts and feelings about Charlie and how his life has been and is changing. Remember you are responsible for at least one blog entry and will be assessed on your creativity and thoroughness with your post.
Keep in mind that this is going out to the world so plagiarism of any kind is completely unacceptable.
After your are done your post you are responsible for choosing the next scribe.
Blogging is a very public activity. Anything that gets posted on the internet stays there. Forever. Deleting a post simply removes it from the blog it was posted to. Copies of the post may exist scattered all over the internet. I have come across posts from my students on blogs as far away as Sweden! That is why we are being so careful to respect your privacy and using first names only. We do not use pictures of ourselves. If you really want a graphic image associated with your posting use an avatar -- a picture of something that represents you but IS NOT of you.
Here are a few videos that illustrate some of what I want you to think about:
Two teachers in the U.S.A. worked with their classes to come up with a list of guidelines for student bloggers.
One of them, Bud Hunt, has these suggestions, among others:
Students using blogs are expected to treat blogspaces as classroom spaces. Speech that is inappropriate for class is not appropriate for our blog. While we encourage you to engage in debate and conversation with other bloggers, we also expect that you will conduct yourself in a manner reflective of a representative of this school.
Never EVER EVER give out or record personal information on our blog. Our blog exists as a public space on the Internet. Don’t share anything that you don’t want the world to know. For your safety, be careful what you say, too. Don’t give out your phone number or home address. This is particularly important to remember if you have a personal online journal or blog elsewhere.
Again, your blog is a public space. And if you put it on the Internet, odds are really good that it will stay on the Internet. Always. That means ten years from now when you are looking for a job, it might be possible for an employer to discover some really hateful and immature things you said when you were younger and more prone to foolish things. Be sure that anything you write you are proud of. It can come back to haunt you if you don’t.
Never link to something you haven’t read. While it isn’t your job to police the Internet, when you link to something, you should make sure it is something that you really want to be associated with. If a link contains material that might be creepy or make some people uncomfortable, you should probably try a different source.
Look over the guidelines and add your own, if you like, in the comments section below this post. I think Bud's suggestions are excellent. We'll be using the one's I highlighted above as a basis for how we will use our blog.
Please download and print out the doc I have created as an agreement of your contribution to this blog. Hand in the sheet after you have signed it.
This is my first post to the LAE blog. We are going to be using this to blog to summarize our classes daily work.
This is the place to talk about what's happening in class; to ask a question you didn't get a chance to ask in class; to get copies of a handout you didn't get in class (the course outline here as well); for parents to find out "How Was School Today;" to share your knowledge with other students. Most importantly it's a place to reflect on what we're learning.
